7 Ways to Feel More Confident About Your Physical Appearance

Feeling confident about your physical appearance is something that many people struggle with. It normally starts during the teenage years, and can be very difficult to overcome. While adults tend to get more confidence, as they grow older, this doesn’t always apply to how they feel about the way they look. Here are some things you can do to improve that.

1. Make a list of things you like about yourself

You probably already have a mental list of the things you don’t like about your appearance, most people focus on the negatives, especially when it concerns their physical appearance. What about the things you do like? There’s always at least one thing that people like about themselves, so spend half an hour looking in the mirror and make your list. Focus on what you like about yourself.

2. Change the things you have control over

Having made an inventory of your assets and liabilities, so to speak, rather than dwelling on the things you don’t have any control over, recognize the ones you can do something about and start changing them bit-by-bit. If you bite your fingernails and don’t like the look of your hands, stop biting them and start looking after them more often, or better yet treats yourself to a regular manicure. If you don’t like your hair, look into options for different styles and colors

3. Buy a new wardrobe

You can feel badly about the way you look if you’re wearing old clothes or clothes, which don’t fit your body properly anymore. Go out with a friend one weekend and buy yourself a new wardrobe for the upcoming season. It does not have to be expensive; there are plenty of department stores that offer quality clothes on a budget.

4. Surround yourself with positive people

Don’t surround yourself with people who talk negatively about themselves or about you and other people. Being around people who constantly put themselves down or others can also make you feel worse about yourself; rather surround yourself with people that look at the bright side of life and that appreciate you for the wonderful person you are. Good friends will be able to advise you on whether or not the new outfits you bought suits you or if your new hair style is flattering without passing judgment.

5. Smile more

When you smile more you will automatically become more attractive to yourself when you look in the mirror and to the people around you. This will lead to more compliments, which will always boost your self-confidence and make you feel better about yourself. Besides smiling is contagious. Spread the love and the love will come back to you a hundredfold.

6. Go to the gym

If you feel out of shape, overweight or underweight, join a gym. There are hundreds of people in the gyms that workout to feel better and improve their appearance, and their health. You will be in a positive environment, surrounded by people who are looking after their body and have a commitment to improve themselves. If you are serious about it, get a mentor to help you achieve your goals, that will save you time, money, energy and put the odds in your corner so that you won’t lose sight of your goals and give up. You will immediately feel empowered, as you are being proactive about taking charge of your body. Not only will you tone up, but you’ll feel better about yourself knowing that you’re working hard to achieve something you have control over. Besides, exercise releases positive endorphins, which will naturally make you feel happier

7. Relax

Taking proactive steps towards self-acceptance will change how good you feel about yourself and will also empower you to be fully satisfied with the joys and happiness of life. Take the time to relax and relish in your accomplishments. Pamper yourself with regular massages, soft music and have a bath at the end of a long day or treat yourself to some new cosmetic products.
